Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
