Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
