The midfielder Crosses from corners and set-plays created chances. Was given freedom to roam down the left flank but was offside as the pass came in front of goal. Given a well-earned rest after an hour. 6/10

Jude Bellingham Played in an advanced spot down the right while also put in defensive duties. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance but scuffed an attempt over. Substituted late on for a teammate, his rival, after receiving a caution. 7

The winger Was presented with England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his strike excellently kept out from the opposing goalkeeper. With a teammate holding position, he was forced to offer an outlet on the right although his balls from the touchline were inconsistent. Taken off with 15 to go. 6/10

Harry Kane The match-winner with his 77th and 78th goals at international level. His first a classic poacher’s finish and his next a classy header following a clever run off his defender. Aged 32, he continues to improve with the national team stand a real opportunity in the upcoming tournament with him up top. Eight

The attacker Struggled to influence play out wide. Was presented with a decent opportunity when set up by the midfielder but the keeper denied him. His replacement produced a bigger effect after coming on. 5
