The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
