The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
